They may be part of the royal family’s inner circle, but Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, lead a more low-key life than you might imagine – and were recently praised by a good friend for their refreshingly ‘modern’ relationship. The couple, who married in a socially-distanced ceremony in Windsor in 2020, share two daughters, Sienna and Athena, while Beatrice is also stepmother to Edoardo’s son, Wolfie.

‘They’re the sweetest and they’re adorable,’ the couple’s friend, Juliet Angus (star of The Real Housewives of London) told HELLO! magazine, explaining that, away from the cameras and the glare of the royal spotlight, the pair are extremely down-to-earth and relaxed. ‘I see them at Glastonbury and at dinner parties, and I love their relationship and how cute and modern they are. I love that they’re a blended family – rules don’t have to be such big rules anymore.’

Indeed, Princess Beatrice and her husband appear committed to bringing up their children in as normal a way as possible, given their somewhat extraordinary circumstances: Beatrice is ninth in line to the throne, while Edoardo is descended from the Italian aristocracy. This summer, the couple have headed to Balmoral with the rest of the royal family to enjoy some peace and quiet up north, and their daughters, as well as nine-year-old Wolfie, are thought to have joined them.

That the invitation has been extended to Beatrice’s stepson is a continuation of the tradition that the family began last year, when Wolfie was first welcomed to Balmoral by his royal great-uncle. Like any holiday among those 50,000 acres (once described by Princess Eugenie as ‘the most beautiful place on earth’), this year’s summer adventure will see Wolfie getting up to all the Firm’s favourite hobbies. ‘He will enjoy a wonderful holiday of outdoor activities such as wild swimming and cycling,’ a family friend told The Daily Mail‘s Richard Eden – just as a young Prince William and Prince Harry would have done in years gone by.
