It’s Thursday once again.

Colleagues being twats? Unexpected issues at work? Project managers that couldn’t manage their way out of a paper bag? Come on in and let us know about everything that’s gone wrong this week.

  1. Well… my complaint is that everything went to hell this last fortnight.

Flew into the UK to begin holidays on the 13th. That was fine, got a few nice warm days in. Had to fly straight back to Australia on the 19th because after a couple of days of not hearing from dad, we’d got concerned and called the police to do a welfare check (Dad was on some fairly heavy duty medications for back injuries). Thinking at the time is he’d had a fall and just couldn’t get to the phone.

Unfortunately he’d passed away in his sleep, which was the last thing I wanted to hear. So I’m back home now organising a funeral I didn’t think I’d have to organise for some time. The people at the funeral home have been lovely with all their assistance and hopefully will be able to give him the best send off we can.

  2. 01:41 pinging SMS about new portal for local hospital. Couldn’t get back to sleep.

  3. FedEx assured me my package I need to be here for was going to arrive today so booked my single work from home day this week for it

Only for them to delay it till tomorrow with a 2am email, it’s even already at the correct delivery depo

  4. Wishing all the best at this incredibly difficult time. This stuff just changes you, I’m so sorry. Remember to be kind and gentle to yourself, and that no one wants a golden coffin.

  5. I did my usual and chose to work through the summer so colleagues with kids could take a break.

Only to have to put several projects into recovery so they now span right across the one week I’ve booked off.

And it turns out that the Ops manager’s plan (having refused to allow me to use a proper PM or set real objectives for the juniors earlier in the year) was that we just put the projects on hold that week and I do double shifts the week I’m back to catch up.

I’m lucky I don’t have the energy to explode about it.

    16 days to go.

  6. I work in a department of about 7 people. 3 full timers, 3 part timers and the manager. Two of the full timers are on holiday which is fine because there’s two part timers that can cover the gaps, it’s slim but that’s not a problem.

One of the part timers has been off on care leave for the last week.

I’ve worked the department by myself (manager too when not doing manager stuff) since Saturday (the weekend only part timer is on holiday) and it has been rough. The remaining part timer is covering the lates so starts just before I finish.

    I’m off this weekend, thankfully.

  7. Spend ages measuring and deliberating over curtain lengths. They come in 183cm drop or 228cm drop. Deliberated for ages and decided just above the sill was better than halfway to the floor.

Now I’m annoyed they’re too short. I’m not good at this homeownership thing.

  8. After my 2 previous colleagues left, I was the only one remaining in my team. We merged with another company and the team grew again, but they’ve already got their hands full with their own work. I’m left essentially being the only point of contact for 3 inboxes and I simply can’t get back on top of my actual project work.

I’ve been putting out fires as fast as they pop up but it’s never fast enough. I’ve not been able to earn an actual commission in ages it’s actually hurting.

  9. I am so tired from picking up the slack on the soapbox project. It feels like baking cakes with children and you end up having to do all the tasks anyway, except the final garnish of the printed rice paper were we all clap at the end and say “we did it!”. Frame looks aces though.

  10. I’m just… Blah. Loads of very trivial complaints at the moment that I was saving for this thread, and now can’t remember!

Got some friends coming over this weekend and we’ve been slacking on housework, so I’m needing to give the place a good scrub over the next couple of days. I hate cleaning; we’ve been talking about hiring a cleaner for months but haven’t sorted it out yet (and to be honest we would need to seriously declutter first, there’s no point hiring someone to clean the surfaces when they can’t even see the surfaces at the moment).

  11. My office is six people and I’m the only one who is full time.

After a Bank Holiday weekend I wish I only worked 4 days because life is easier with 3 days to a weekend. But I can’t afford to drop a day despite being well paid for what I do (although well paid for what I do isn’t necessarily well paid).

My boss is not flexible enough for me to even bother asking about working from home a second day a week or asking for compressed hours. She’s made her views on these things very clear before.

I’ve been looking for a new job for about 2 years now.

  12. MOT day. I don’t trust garages any more since ATS Euromaster failed to add any oil at the last major service! Also sold me new tires I didn’t need and messed me around with the pricing (costs twice as much to book in person than it does to book online)
So I’m going somewhere else – the place that confirmed I definitely didn’t have an oil leak. 10 months later and the car has been fine so they were right, oil level is still at three quarters. So we might be ok. I just feel like as a young-looking female I’m an easy target to make money from…

  13. Need to get up but I honestly have 0 motivation and cannot be fucked. It never fucking ends

  14. Work have decided, suddenly, that we have to move to another office in 5 weeks. It’s going to add around £200 a month to my commute costs, and add about three hours commuting time to my day. It’s essentially a pay (and work life balance) cut, neither of which are what I need currently.

And no, they absolutely refuse to let us work from home, so that isn’t even an option. We’re all having one on one “consultations” with our department manager but that’s obviously just performative to comply with ACAS regulations, it isn’t going to change anything.

Also I got woken up by someone letting fireworks off a few gardens over at 1am.

  15. Seems to be one thong after another. I was just getting over a muscle tear after doing two 5k in a week and hayfever( which I have never had before) has got me. Just trying to get through to Sunday in one piece. Today is a little easier thankfully.

Also my diet has become appalling. Need to eat veggies

  16. I’m having a massive ball ache with the oil fuelled central heating in the house we have moved to six months ago.

Not long after the 26 year old boiler shat itself properly and was difficult to repair.

So I but the bullet and we had a new one installed.

Worked perfectly for a while. Then stopped.

Turns out the oil tank has a load of water contamination in it. It’s also got 1000 litres of fresh heating oil on top of it.

So after 5 grand on a new boiler I’m looking paying someone to suck 500 quids worth of oil out of a tank. Clean a tank, and deliver me some more oil, before a heating engineer comes back and cleans the lines and the pump.

    FML.

  17. Work’s been a drag lately. Asides from a long running issue with pipelines and deployment sapping my will to live because it’s apparently the only thing we can host it on, the new guy they hired seems to be questioning every decision we made when slamming this app together and I’m not sure if it’s just demonstrating I’m an idiot who shouldn’t have been assigned that task, or if he’s the kind of stick in the mud who could never do it himself but loves to criticise. Anyway, a bit of imposter syndrome and I could do with a win

  18. I’ve put this in the general thread, but one of the utilities (I’m guessing) have put temp lights up outside my house overnight. It’s near a T junction and every idiot keeps blocking the junction waiting for the lights. In turn, it means the stream of traffic keeps getting blocked because a car can’t turn. Luckily it’s early so experienced drivers are leaving space so these idiots can reverse.

It’s 8am and there’s been so many horns and awful music. I’m going to take a nosey why they’ve gone up. Can’t smell gas, so possibly water but can’t see anything on the website.

  19. My aunties side of the family are from France. My cousin is getting married next year and we are trying to work out the logistics of getting over there.

My mum and aunt are being massive passive aggressive pricks with eachother about the whole thing, they are also insisting we arrange things through them, rather than direct with my cousin (we are both in our 30s).
