I always liked Emma from since Easy A
I don’t think she’s joking.

“Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.”
-Arthur C. Clarke
Aliens that due to time and space we will never meet.
This is a rational position to take.
It’s hard to not believe in aliens, but to believe in super intelligent aliens or aliens as intelligent as us is likely very rare. Kurzgesagt has a couple videos on this topic.
Thinking there are actually aliens interacting with us and influencing life is unimaginably unlikely.
In terms of actual math, there is definitely a probability of aliens existing somewhere.
Emma is correct, as it’s almost a mathematical certainty aliens exist. We know life can exist because we exist. We know there are a bazillion planets in a bazillion systems. Do the math. It’s not particularly hard math.
It’s also a near-certainty that we are far too distant from them for either of us to notice the other.
human existence in this universe is a paradox
Radio signals sent out barely go anywhere outside our solar system, and the known universe is so vast, entire civilizations on other planets can live, evolve, and go extinct millenniums before we ever see the light from there reach us.
Believing this is the only planet with life is asinine.
I’m very much a skeptic of a lot of things. I don’t believe in ghosts, or anything paranormal. Don’t believe in ESP or anything in that realm. I also do not believe we’ve ever been visited by aliens or had made any sort of contact.
But there is zero chance in hell we’re alone in the universe. Even the thought that we are is so ignorant and yes…narcissistic.
Universe doesn’t operate based on what we think is narcissistic or not, we’re unfortunately alone :/
Well she is right.
Believing in aliens, intelligent or not, is normal and the most logical scenario.
Believing they have been to Earth is cuckoo.
I thought Zuckerberg was the definitive proof that aliens exist and walk amongst us.
Pretty big distinction between those who believe aliens exist (a statical likelihood given the size of the universe), and those who believe aliens exist and have visited Earth in space crafts.
Not sure what side she sits on it, but I’m definitely in the former.
Is she wrong ? No.
If people like Obama and Schumer are talking about weird, advanced tech in the sky then I think it’s reasonable for most people to be at least agnostic on the question.
That’s no joke.
That’s truth.
We need to kick the word “narcissist” out of the lexicon for a while. It’s been conflated to mean too many things
Whether I believe in them or not, it doesn’t matter. We’re never seeing them regardless.
Believing an aliens is reasonable. Believing that aliens have visited Earth is something I’m much more skeptical of.

Why we might be alone speech- David Kipping
Look at how we treat other living things here, we ARE alone and its by our own design.
Also. Even if there are other species out there the odds of them finding earth and making contact with humans, a very young and extremely self destructive species, in the grand scheme of the planet and universe, is infinitesimal.
Its more narcissistic to believe we’d have a chance to meet another species from another planet, in our blink of an eye existence.
She’s absolutely right and yes the universe is so huge and we still can’t travel fast enough, what a day would it be if aliens really visited Earth.
What an absolutely average take
There’s no way other planets have never had or don’t have some sort of life, it might be very primitive compared to use, but it exists. There’s always to ants next to a superhighway theory too where one species is so far less advanced than the other that they just don’t know or understand each other. Always possible if the aliens are super advanced they have something very similar to Star Treks Prime Directive where they aren’t allowed to interfere with a developing planet
Life on other planets is basically guaranteed. How much of that is intelligent is a rough guess.
I don’t agree that it’s narcissistic to think that. Statistically, it’s pretty much impossible that here aren’t aliens out there somewhere. However the chances that we will ever see or meet aliens is also pretty much impossible, so we will never be able to verify or confirm whether aliens do or don’t exist, it will just be speculation forever.
In the functionally infinite sandbox that is space I feel like there’s no reality where this is the *only* planet in all of the universes history that whatever chain reaction between chemicals created life happened. Trillions upon trillions of years lol
I don’t think it’s narcissistic at all to think that.
Fact is we have 0 evidence to conclude that there is any other intelligent life out there. 0. The probability there is intelligent life is equal to the probability that there isn’t.
