1. Despite tensions over Hamas’s war in Gaza, Germany approved a €358 million ($451m) deal with Israel’s Rafael to buy 90 Litening 5 targeting pods for its Eurofighter Typhoon fleet.

   It my opinion, this highlights Europe’s need for proven, advanced Israeli technology. Showcasing that the noise about Gaza is not as significant as many would think.

   Even before the war ended, Europe already can’t get enough of Israeli technology. With Germany itself buying many systems together with others nations like Romania, Greece, Finland and others.

   Another Israeli defense firm, Elbit, recently reported on a 23.8 Billion Dollar backlog of orders, with almost 70% of which being outside of Israel.

   The Litening 5 is a fifth generation targeting pod used by 28 air forces worldwide, designed to improve precision strikes and reconnaissance.

   It combines advanced sensors including infrared, high resolution color imaging and laser designation with optional radar for all weather target detection. The system can track multiple moving targets, support both air to ground and air to air missions, and even help detect drones.

   It works with many aircraft types and guided munitions, making it highly adaptable. Germany’s move to Litening 5 reflects its push for greater precision, survivability and future ready capabilities.

2. Because European nations might shake their fist in the air at Israel to appease their voters in reality Israel is a liberal Democracy that supports traditional Western values. Israel is a western ally and supporting that is much more useful than any concrete action that might lead to indirectly assisting terrorist groups or Iran.

   There probably is no happy ending for the people in Gaza, at least not any time soon.
