The authorities have executed Faramarz Shahbazi and Mashallah Nikoufal, two prisoners from Harsin in Kermanshah Province who had previously been sentenced to death for drug trafficking offences.
This brings to three the number of prisoners executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Alborz Province, on 27 August.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) had previously reported the execution of another prisoner from Harsin, Hossein Biabani, in the same prison on the morning of 27 August.
The KHRN has learned that Shahbazi, Nikoufal, and Biabani were transferred to solitary confinement on 26 August, along with at least three other prisoners — Hossein Ali Yousefi, Soleyman Koushki, and Ahmad Ali Mehripour — in preparation for their executions.
While Shahbazi, Nikoufal and Biabani were executed at dawn, the executions of the other three were temporarily suspended.
Shahbazi, Nikoufal and Biabani were arrested around five to six years ago on drug trafficking charges and subsequently sentenced to death.
