  1. So this could indicate more outpatient (deferred) procedures or it could indicate that more people are actually moving away from the procedure altogether?

  2. Mutilating babies as a social norm is completely barbaric, this is a good trend to see.

  3. Could you clarify how you’re excluding babies who migrated after birth? I’m a bit confused about that distinction. I assume the male babies counted are born in the US and remain in the country?

  4. Explains why most of the penile cancer and penectomy cases we see are in Hispanic patients.

  5. I know Reddit is vehemently anti circumcision with absolutely zero nuance, but saying shit like “ban all circumcision” is A) medically stupid because circumcision is medically recognized in some (not all) ailenents on the penis and B) totally western-centric and ignorant of the roughly 1 in 3 people on this planet who belong to a culture, ethnic group or religion that practices male circumcision as an element of their identity.

Female genital mutilation on the other hand is quite different as it removes the equivalent of the male glans and is rightfully banned.

  6. As a circumcised man, I can say it was weird when I would vacation to Europe. I’d hook up with women there, and they would always point out that it was weird my penis didn’t have a part.

  7. To be fair it does reduce risk of STD transmission, esp HIV, pretty substantially

  8. “Evaluation of current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks and that the procedure’s benefits justify access to this procedure for families who choose it. Specific benefits identified included prevention of urinary tract infections, penile cancer, and transmission of some sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has endorsed this statement.”

  9. How brain dead do you have to be to try and justify putting a blade to an infant’s genitals? I can’t believe I have to share society with these animals. No wonder Europe laughs at the U.S.

  10. Seriously? I thought this was pretty rare. I didn’t know more than half of white people were circumcised.

  11. I was there during a diaper change when my friend, a smart and conscientious mom, discovered a pus-filled sore under her baby boy’s foreskin. The sight was pretty gross, and she was understandably upset. Seeing that situation, despite knowing what an attentive mom she was, was enough to make me decide to have my own son circumcised.

He’s 22 now and has told me he’s glad we made that decision. I didn’t really ask him too much about it. We don’t need to know everything.

  12. I’m a Jewish guy (and not one of those weird self hating ones, just a regular Jewish guy) and even I switched my mindset in the last ten years.

Before I saw it as a totally normal thing, now I cannot imagine ever doing that to my child. Not all traditions have to pass on

  13. thank goodness people are finally coming to their senses and curtailing this barbaric practice
