  1. Data from [https://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/bollinger3/index.php](https://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/bollinger3/index.php), [https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hestat/circumcision_2013/circumcision_2013.htm](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hestat/circumcision_2013/circumcision_2013.htm), [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32716676/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32716676/), [https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/urology/articles/10.3389/fruro.2024.1380154/full](https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/urology/articles/10.3389/fruro.2024.1380154/full)

  2. Good to see! It can have some health benefits, but this is really something that should be left up to individuals themselves to decide.

ETA: to be clear, just because something has minor health benefits doesn’t justify it. Tonsils and the appendix are both things that can cause a lot of trouble, but nobody is systematically suggesting they be removed at birth, for good reason. I mentioned the health benefits because some people will say circumcision is justified because of them. I’m trying to say the opposite–that even with health benefits (which, again, have been shown to be fairly minor), this isn’t something that should be done as a matter of course. No healthy body part should be removed by anyone but a consenting adult simply based on the fear that it COULD become diseased later on.

  3. Medicaid policy shifts – does that mean Medicaid stopped covering it?

  4. That “cut rates nearly in half” is a bit on the nose.

  5. Would be interesting to see it broken down by race or ethnicity

  6. Yeah, something else that has caused rates to decline is that it’s genital mutilation. It’s also immoral to remove a part of person’s body before they’re able to consent.

  7. Call it what it actually is. Male genital mutilation. The rate of parents inflicting this on their children needs to go back down to 0%.

  8. Male Genital Mutilation should be punished the same way FGM is

  9. I can’t believe circumcisions are still a thing. It seems such a bizarre thing to do.

We had a baby boy recently, not once did we even remotely consider it. Though then again, circumcision is virtually unheard of here,so you are obviously influenced by the culture around you.

  10. Born in ’82 – Still have my original casing. Apparently I’m in an elite club.

  11. Born too late to own property. Born too early to explore the stars. Born just in time to have part of my dick cut off as a baby.

  12. Ladies think dicks look weird no matter what, so leave it alone. Don’t chop your baby’s dick up.

  13. Thank god it’s stopping, this is truly beautiful data.

  14. the few, the proud, the uncircumcised men born in the 1980s

  15. Amazing what an eccentric cereal brand owner can do when he sets his mind to it.

  16. Everyone I know that had it done, complains about barely being able to feel anything down there. Must suckkkk so much

  17. Sadly I think a lot of millennials are still pro-circ in the States. Literally talked to all my friends and only two of them were anti-circ, the rest were like yea chop that shit off…

  18. That’s sick. Why would you willingly mutilate your own new born baby without a medical reason to do so?! Disgusting!

And yes, I’m circumcised for medical reasons and I hate it’. I would be pissed as hell if my parents made this permanent body choice for me just because it’s fashionable. Because that’s all it is.

  19. This country is a depressing and insane place lately, but it’s good to at least know that the rates of child genital mutilation are going down.

  20. Some traditions seem like arbitrary practical jokes designed to mess with us.

  21. To me it’s crazy how this custom’s popularity is really just a blip on the screen of history. You could summarize the rise and fall of it’s popularity within the last hundred years. How many generations of men does that amount to? What other customs have risen and fallen over similar timelines?

  22. GOOD. Circumcision without medical necessity is bronze age barbarism.

  23. My son was just born. Broke the cycle and did not snip. Absolutely insane we were chopping the tips off. And before anyone says some stupid shit about cleanliness, it’s modern times. We all have showers.

  24. This is not medically necessary. Majority of Americans do it because people are very closed minded and can’t accept penises looking all different ways.
