You can also read details about the government’s Best Start in Life strategy at: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/689b39d55555fb89cf3f5e7d/Giving_every_child_the_best_start_in_life_web_version.pdf
Personally I support every policy and strategy he’s outlined in the above article. Child poverty rates in the UK, especially in England where it’s over 30%, are terrible.
It’s about time a UK Government understands that neglecting children is no way to run a successful country- and this one seems to.
SureStart and programs like this it were/are fantastic, and exactly the sort of thing that I think a government should be doing. There will doubtless be issues with implementation and the shortage of nursey places in some areas is a real concern but fundamentally supporting children from as young an age as possible is a no-brainer
I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets drowned out by the constant shitshow of the news cycle though
This is one of Labours best most impactful policies, yet 90% of people have no idea about it.
If in doubt, you could always call naysayers a sexual predator/nonce
I’m not even sure why he mentioned Reform here. This should be a straightforward announcement of a program pretty much anyone finds agreeable and positive. It reads as defensive to me.
Proof is in the pudding. He’ll be fine if people feel a positive difference within the next four years. He’s fucked if we don’t.
The established parties might be stale and underperforming but Reform will bring the country to its knees, they are completely clueless.
Finally, a sign of life. Labour has to change the narrative. Stop following the populist twats and be a positive force for change. Starmer’s realising this way too late I fear though.
Sir Keir today – “While Reform and the Tories talk down the country at every turn…”
Wes Streeting – the NHS is broken
Secretary of State for Justice, Shabana Mahmood – the Prison Service is broken
Yvette Cooper (today) – the Asylum system is broken – [https://news.sky.com/story/labour-plans-to-overhaul-broken-asylum-system-13422826](https://news.sky.com/story/labour-plans-to-overhaul-broken-asylum-system-13422826)
Starmer – Too many in Whitehall being “comfortable in the tepid bath of managed decline”, or The NHS and the prison system are among parts of the state which are visibly broken, he warned. or The Transport system in the North is broken.
Only 2 months ago- Sir Keir Starmer has said the UK’s benefits system is broken – [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20wxq3q1x3o](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20wxq3q1x3o)
11 months ago – Labour should ditch doom and gloom message – [https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/sep/22/labour-should-ditch-doom-and-gloom-message-for-one-of-economic-renewal](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/sep/22/labour-should-ditch-doom-and-gloom-message-for-one-of-economic-renewal)
No keir your destroying the country food prices and anything else are sky high illegal immigration is out of control and your attacking oaps and the disabled
Making the streets safer sounds like a good place to start.
Unless they’re disabled kids, in which case Labour will take away millions in support. Starmer is selling out disabled people.
Some promising action from the government here, but does anyone find it deeply disturbing how much of Labour’s communication is centred around Reform? The way a party with all of 5 MPs has become so influential in such a short time is a concern.
Well shut them up by doing something instead of talking about setting up a committee to look into sorting something out
When keir? What is the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) for this “brighter future” for kids?
Incredible this man can tell what the future will bring, why is he merely Prime Minister and not Prophet for the World?
Nah. Can we please put this Puppet away and get some leadership for the first time in my life? Am 38 years old.
Brighter future by banning them from any adult conversations online, any support group, keeping the triple lock, offering no positive youth policies.
Just more spin.
People want the truth. People are sick and tired of hearing this nonsense. The PR, party line. The question dodges. The suits.
Just be real fucking people.
Great to see the 30 hours childcare being rolled out, happy that Labour have delivered that. Such a shame however that the 100k threshold still isn’t being looked at. Just another instance of single earner households being disadvantaged, and those that pay the most tax receiving fewer services.
Breakfast clubs coming back, capping the number of ridiculous branded school uniform items parents have to buy, 30 hrs free childcare, and 88 million quid towards arts and music education. Fantastic. Having bought up a kid during the period where the Tories cut support to all of these things, I know how valuable they are, and the devastating impact of having lost them. But as everyone is saying, it will probably be lost on the average reform voter, who just want to blame their shitty life on… People who are different to them.
>I’m giving kids a brighter future
Defends Online Safety Act
Isn’t pushing to Rejoin the EU.
More lies from Keir
He is giving kids a brighter future, just not our kids
I’m giving kids a brighter, warmer future by building a bonfire of their parents.
I hate reform but I also don’t like Starmer; as a youngish left winger he seems more right wing than a Tory. He’s taken away freedom of speech and has no backbone as someone who worked as a human rights lawyer yet is happy to support genocide. Doesn’t sit well with me.
Giving kids a brighter future by increasing taxes and probably increasing retirement age, nice
Thirty free hours of childcare per week is a fantastic social democratic policy and is among the most generous in Europe. Everyone on the left should support it.
And I say this as someone who despises Starmer, McSweeney, Reeves, Mandelson, and the rest of the sorry clique running Labour…
Give praise where it’s due.
30 hours free childcare is great. Issues are that there’s hardly any places, nurseries are getting naff all money from the Government and so will have to let people go due to rising bills.
But don’t worry, it’s fine because both parents are working and Labour can tax them. Super stuff.
Reform has power because of your incompetence, Mr Keir.
He is giving kids a brighter future, just not ones from British parents.
Who the fuck thinks Labour and tories doing a good job though seriously I’d rather stake a punt on reform uk that just shows how bad Labour and tories have been for people to take the “risk on reform” maybe they will be shit too I’d rather try something new than shit we have had for the last 20 years just my opinion everyone’s entitled to theirs own sorry but I ain’t ever voting Labour or tories nah I’m good you do you guys I know what I’m doing
Kier just likes being around kids. Probably gave many nightmares but definitely is giving zero a brighter future
“Accuse your opponent of which you are guilty” Reform while a fever dream has offered more of a level headed conversation then Labour have done the past 2 years.
Farage and teece are doing well, no shortage of cash there, so that is untrue that reform are taking down our country.
I can think of a bunch of kids who’d very much disagree.
Yet if you disagree with what the left says about anything you get banned from subs amd called nazi and far right, which is why large portions are turning away from the left. I get called far right even though never voted right just for disagreeing with certain policies, been called a nazi and banned from subs for questioning a policy so for me at this point the left seems like a cult and ill be voting for an independent or plaid for an independent Wales. As a Labour member for the past 20 years, its been pretty clear that this government has not got a clue and has lost touch with reality. A shutdown of free speech and debate isn’t going to win you an election, its just gonna make people shut up and share their opinions in the ballot box.
Theres still time to turn around and actually start listening to the average worker, but with how things have gone so far I dont see this happening. A Farage win is going to be the fault of a vocal minority of the far left.
Also we have had labour in charge for the last 25 years in Wales. And as someone who works for the nhs its pretty clear how bad the nhs is in Wales compared to England and Scotland. We also get paid less in Wales compared to the whole of the UK for the same jobs. Our hospitals are crumbling, I’ve helped multiple times deal with floods in operating theaters because our buildings and in such a state of disrepair yet all we see is Westminster completely ignore us yet give the Scottish everything they can. All recommendations from the majority of people I work with are if your sick, get yourself to an English hospital as our backlogs are the worst in the country, try being a woman with any problems what so ever and walk into a welsh hospital. I’ll guarantee you will be told oh your either pregnant, menopausal, faking or due a period so just deal with it. Yet my partner has nearly died twice after being sent home for just over exaggerating a “period” and thats with me actually working there and being able to push things more than the average patient. This has happened with nearly all the women I work to the point of all of them (band 2 and 3) so lowly paid going private just to get an actual diagnosis as they are not swamped with staffing issues and extremely stressed out staff and will actually look. Or how about how the patient lists i see everyday are full with “refugees” who have just got here and managed to skip 6 years of waiting lists while our own people get pushed back and back. Guess i must be a racist for seeing this every day and thinking its a problem.
The wrong countries kids a brighter future meanwhile our kids are fucked
Keir Starmers’ idea of a bright future for our kids is where they need to arm themselves to protect themselves from third world pedophiles following them on their walks to and from school.
Labour is giving kids a bright future where they can be diddled by immigrants
Please tell me how on earth Labour is making my children’s life brighter??
Birthrates are low due a combination of high housing prices, high cost of living, low wages requiring both parents to work, very high nursery fees that make working pointless and older people working longer meaning you can’t even rely on parents for childcare.
Without government subsidies having children becomes an expensive luxury now, I like that they are acting like they are doing us a favour when its something we need to keep our heads above water.
BWA HA HA HA HA….. HA HA….. ha…
Erm…
wait…
He’s serious?
Mr Tory light thinks he’s a good person?
No.
Have PMs always written opinion piece articles in tabloids?
