Applications by asylum seekers to bring relatives to the UK suspended by Cooper

1. New applications to the existing refugee family reunion route will be suspended this week, meaning refugees will be covered by “the same family migration rules and conditions as everyone else”.

   This move comes ahead of more comprehensive reforms to family reunion, which will be outlined in an asylum statement later this year and implemented by spring.

   Home Secretary Yvette Cooper told the Commons: “We continue to believe that families staying together is important, and it’s why we will seek to prioritise family groups among the applicants to come to Britain under our new deal with France. But reforms are needed.”

2. So basically one person could come here to claim asylum and bring their family along later?

   If that’s the case it was obviously safe enough for the family to stay so they shouldn’t be allowed to claim asylum

6. Family reunion applications were free, no IHS payment, with no English, financial or other requirements.

   Basically they had more right to bring a partner to the UK than British citizens.

   A partner that in most cases they left in their home country for 2+ years depending on the length of their irregular journey, asylum claim processing time and the family reunion application processing time.

7. If they left their families in genuine life-threatening situations, they should have their asylum claims rejected for demonstrating low moral fibre.

8. This should have been done years ago. Many other countries already have this no relatives rule. Labour are truly shite and this is the first sensible thing they have done in the last year it also emphasises how the Tories really f**ked the country and made no serious effort to cut immigration legal and illegal.

17. So keeping families apart? If one gets asylum, whey can’t they bring their immediate family?
