USA: ‘Trump is a wannabe dictator’ says Illinois Governor on National Guard deployments

The message from Illinois’s elected officials is clear. Keep the military out of Chicago. The state’s governor JB Pritsker gathered with other Democrats, including senators and community leaders, to show their opposition to US President Trump’s plans to send the National Guard into the city. Trump wants to crack down on federal crime and called Chicago a mess. Pritsker called it an unconstitutional overreach and called the president a wannabe dictator. Donald Trump wants to use the military to occupy a US city, punish his dissident, and score political points. If this were happening in any other country, we would have no trouble calling it what it is, a dangerous power grab. He pointed out that Trump was only expanding the military into Democratc controlled cities. The National Guard were sent to both Washington DC and Los Angeles in recent months. Illinois’s governor, himself, a Democrat, pointed out that 13 out of the top 20 cities and homicide rates nationwide had Republican governors. In the last year, crime has fallen in nearly every major category tracked by the Chicago Police Department. But Trump doubled down, calling the city a killing field. A lot of people are saying, “Maybe we like a dictator.” I don’t like a dictator. I’m not a dictator. I’m a man with great common sense, and I’m a smart person. And when I see uh what’s happening to our cities and then you send in troops instead of being praised, they’re saying you’re trying to take over the republic. Uh these people are sick. It’s unclear if Donald Trump will go through with his plans, but the state and city officials on Monday pledged to take legal action against the administration to prevent a federal deployment in Chicago.

  8. Fighting crimes is just a pretext.. the main reason is to create a defense position for himself in case people decide to protest and bring him down…
