Iran-backed Houthis raid UN offices in Yemen, detain 11 employees • FRANCE 24 English

Houthis have raided the offices of the United Nations food, health, and children’s agencies in Yemen’s capital, detaining 11 UN employees. That is the rebels tightened security across SAR following the Israeli killing of their prime minister and several cabinet members also raided the offices of the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Well, earlier we spoke to correspondent Sarah Anderson in New York. In Yemen, the UN says rebel forces broke into its facilities, seized property, and detained at least 11 staff members without cause. Since the announcement, reactions have been pouring in. In a statement, Antonio Gutierrez strongly condemned the arrest. The UN Secretary General also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained staff. The UN envoy for Yemen, Hans Grunberg, also responded. He said the detentions came after the forced entry into UN premises and seizure of UN property. Earlier on Sunday, the World Food Program said that one of its workers at least had been detained in Sana. They called the detentions unacceptable and stressed that the safety of aid workers is essential to delivering life-saving assistance. This is not the first time that the Houthis have targeted UN staff. According to UN officials, the Houthies were already detaining 23 UN staff members, some since 2021.
