Paramount-owned 5 in the UK has commissioned a new slate of trial-themed programmes from local indie Good TV, including a two-hour special that imagines what a trial of controversial royal Prince Andrew would look like.

Good TV, founded by former BBC commissioning editor Elliot Reed, is working on two-hour special Prince Andrew: On Trial examining what would happen if the most controversial member of the British royal family in modern times faced a court.

Real barristers will put the question, ‘Is Andrew a liability to the royal family, or not?’ to a jury. The film takes us into the deliberation room as we see first-hand how they pass judgment.

Good TV has previously produced The Trial for 5, with the first season including James Bulger: The Trial, The Soham Murder Trial, and The Trial of Harold Shipman.

5 has greenlit a second run of 1×90’ docs focusing on famous royal trials: The Trial of Diana’s Royal Butler and The Trial of Fergie’s Dresser.

The commissions were made by director of creative strategy Daniel Louw.
