Portugal will kick off their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign when Roberto Martinez’s men take on Armenia at Republican Stadium on Saturday.
The Lusitanians and Yegishe Melikyan’s side are in Group F, along with Hungary and the Republic of Ireland. The group winner will qualify directly for the World Cup finals, while the runner-up will advance to the second round (play-offs).

The World Cup Qualification match between Armenia and Portugal will be played at Republican Stadium in Yerevan, Armenia.
It will kick off at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET on Saturday, September 6, in the US.

Armenia team news
Midfielder Narek Grigoryan has been left out due to injury, and Norberto Briasco has withdrawn because of a family issue. However, Lucas Zelarayan and Grant-Leon Ranos have both returned to the squad.
It is still uncertain how Melikyan will arrange his team, but he will likely rely on Legia Warsaw’s Vahan Bichakhchyan for creativity in midfield. Additionally, 60-cap Slovan Bratislava striker Tigran Barseghyan will be looking to score his 10th goal for the national team.
Portugal team news
It will be Portugal’s first match since the passing of Diogo Jota, while Rafael Leao is out with a calf injury.
Elsewhere, Diogo Dalot has withdrawn due to a muscle problem, leaving Joao Cancelo and Joao Neves to compete for a starting spot at right-back.
Francisco Conceicao and Pedro Neto are likely to join 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo up front, with Ruben Neves and Vitinha set to feature in the middle. Interestingly, Neves will be wear the No. 21 shirt in honor of Jota.
