Prince Hisahito, the third in line to the Chrysanthemum Throne of Japan, had his coming-of-age ceremony at the Imperial Palace. This event was the first of its kind in 40 yearsy

The Imperial family, including his parents, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, and his sister, Princess Kako, were all in attendance. Also present were the Emperor and Empress of Japan and Princess Aiko, Princess Toshi, the Emperor's only daughter. This was notable given the ongoing debates about succession to the throne.
