“Liver *Sosage*”
Are they some OG KitKats at the bottom of the pic?
Cadbury snack in the bottom right, not seen them for years
Veal sarnies – not something you see now.
Before fridges were invented
Are those kitkats at the bottom ?
They look massive !
Gosh, adjusting for inflation, that chicken salad sandwich would be £2.53. Oooh, and are those chocolate eclairs on the bottom shelf just to the right of the Golden Wonder?!
BRB – I’m getting the DeLorean fired up. I’ve got a stack of old-style 50p coins. Get your orders in!!
Edit: I’ve checked my stash of old coins. I’ve got £4.50 in old 50p’s (all dated before 1972, don’t want to confuse the past) as well as around £3 worth of old 20p’s. Does anyone want me to ask if they do soup, tea or coffee? Maybe some Mellow Birds for the Midland set?
Pressed veal and tomato
Seen this photo a few times and always reckon those sandwiches tasted like absolute fucking shit
Meal deal!
1.20 to 1.80 per sandwich in today’s money. Not bad, not bad at all
one fun fact I like to bring up is that the first prepacked sandwiches in a chain were from marks and spencers in the early 80s. they had more than was needed and decided to package them up and sell later
The photo was original black and white and someone “coloured” it which is why those things look pretty disgusting
Rorst beef would be my choice.
That shop was still there in 2010
According to BoE inflation calculator, 10p then is £1.19 in today’s money.
I miss the foil and paper kit kats. I used to fold the foil afterwards to make a little ring 💍
Definitely London prices! And chicken available?! Bloody luxury.
We reckoning “butter or spread”?
Damn those crusty rolls look good
I got extremely excited thinking these were scooby style giant sandwiches but no. Just piles of regular sandwiches. Sad times.
Buy a stack, eat it Scooby Doo style.
I remember even back to early 90’s a little coffee shop outside Liverpool St with bacon rolls and sausage rolls stacked up in the window. Coffee and a bacon roll was about few quid!
Also remember many years back a greasy spoon at Eden Park, the bread and butter was all done and sat behind the counter in a massive stack, two slices with your fry up taken from the top of the pile!
I remember sandwich shops like this in the city back in the early 80s. The sandwiches were freshly made and didn’t hang around long.
There is a sandwich shop near me that presents a few pre-made sandwiches like this ahead of the lunch rush. But they all disappear come 2pm.
Unfortunately they aren’t at 1972 prices. They are pretty good though
I’ll have the ‘Pressed Veal & Tomato’ at £0.12 each.
I’ll have two.
I’ll give you 25p if you spread a tiny layer of mayo on each.
shout out to my bar penguin
Rorst beef
‘Ullo skip, can I have an unrefrigerated chicken sandwich that’s had flies walking on it all day please
It is crazy to think that someone had to come up with the idea of putting a sandwich in a packet/bag. It is also mental how it was M&S
This has to be the twelfth time I’ve seen this picture on reddit. Reposting bot!
15p that’s £1.79 today, inflation is wild
Pressed veal sounds interesting
Sod the sarnies, I want a peak in that box of penguins. I bet they were fucking massive in 1972.
Ok hear me out liver sausage is actually pretty tasty.
That stupid Simpsons liver and onions meme got me to try the combo for real and it goes great in a sandwich with garlic mayo and cracked pepper
I think one egg made three sandwiches
Apple pie in a box that looks like a basket. My mum bought me one of those.
God I love a cheese and pickle sandwich. Now also craving a cheese and marmite sandwich 😫
Golden Wonder crisps. Were those the ones that had a little blue paper twist that contained salt for if you wanted to add it to your plain crisps.
Hmmm, I’ll take a stack of the Luncheon Meat and Tomato.
RORST
Would rather have that choice than the pre packed crap we have now
A mere 13p for a roast beef Scooby snack.
I suppose 5 decades of inflation & a tomb of packaging is why it now cost £7.13 (without mayo/mustard).
