  1. Military planners are scrambling to find barracks to house asylum seekers and “accelerate” the closure of migrant hotels, John Healey has confirmed.

The Defence Secretary said the Armed Forces have been drafted in to help “restore control of our borders”.

And they are working alongside the Home Office to end the asylum accommodation crisis, which has led to taxpayers shelling out £5.7m a day on hotels and migrants being moved into flats and houses across the country.

  2. This is a strange time-line , couldn’t this have been done years ago .

  3. We literally have thousands of hours of free or heavily discounted labour sitting around. The government should enable councils to use that labour.

Need litter picking done round town = migrants

Need graffiti cleaned around town = migrants

Your council maintenance team needs extra labourer = Migrants

Im not suggesting we dont pay. We pay them minimum wage but subtract room, food, and legal costs from that wage, and the rest is held in trust until they have their claim processed. On failure its seed money to set them up back in their home country and On Success it would be enough to provide a running start here. If a crime is committed while waiting to be processed, then its deportation and trust is forfeit

  4. I am glad to see this chapter is over. I wonder what the little Englanders will cry about next. Will it be halal foods ? Mosque being opened ? deliveroo drivers ? drill music ?

  5. Just refuse to let people coming  from France claim asylum. That won’t destroy the middle east, whatever the UK does has no effect on the middle east . Same with net zero, the UK achieving net zero by destroying its economy won’t stop global warming. Time to discard the saviour complex, and think clearly. Developing disruptive technologies is only way the UK can make an real impact on global warming. Now that Farage has become the migration minister it’s time to apply his reccomdation, otherwise he will become the Prime Minister,  can we avoid that drama. Look at what’s going on in the United States.

  6. Did we vote Trump in over here too? FFS. This Reform cosplay the government is doing will fool no-one.

  7. Reform doesn’t want this problem solved before the next general election.

  8. That should have been a day 1 decision ffs. 24/7 patrols

  9. Time for the RNLI to stop being a taxi firm and start being a rescue service.

  10. This does not control our borders; all they are doing is putting them in army barracks, which I assume aren’t in the middle of towns, and that may introduce an element of control on movement.

It’s a reaction to Reform and the protests from people who are sick of the hotels in their towns. This does not reduce the numbers just hides them out of the way

  11. Hey would you look at that what all the common sense people have been saying to do…

  12. I’m not a Labour supporter or Conservative but it is my view Starmer and Labour are starting to do a better job on immigration then the Tories did.
