GOSPIĆ – More than 1,800 walkers from Croatia and over 25 countries, including South Korea, Japan, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and Austria, gathered in Gospić this weekend for the 7th Croatian Walking Festival.
The two-day event once again showcased the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Lika, leaving a lasting impression on both domestic and international participants.
Never before had so many languages echoed through the streets and trails of Gospić. From Asia to America and across Europe, walkers shared stories, experiences and admiration for the region’s landscapes and hospitality.
On Saturday, participants set off along the “Tesla Trails” (Tesla 10+, 20+ and 30+ routes), which led through Smiljan to the Nikola Tesla Memorial Centre.

Along the routes, colourful groups of walkers carried flags from around the world – from Japan, South Korea and the United States to Germany and the Netherlands.
Many proudly displayed the Croatian flag alongside their own, symbolising their connection to the host country. Friendships were formed, reunions took place, and promises were made to return again next year.

“More than 1,800 walkers from around the world is the best confirmation that Lika has become an unmissable destination for active tourism. This festival is not just an event; it is our most beautiful postcard, as everyone who walked our landscapes will become ambassadors of Lika and Croatia in their own countries,” said Ivan Radošević, Director of the Lika-Senj County Tourist Board.

Walkers are delighted with our nature, hospitality and the stories we share along the routes. This has been the largest edition yet and proof that walking has the power to bring people together and create friendships across borders.”
