Just recently lost my job and looking for new employment in a more exciting field. I am looking to gain some combat experience and I understand that Ukraine is currently accepting most people even those with no combat experience. My plan is to join up, gain some combat experience and become a private contractor / pmc which will pay much more.

How is the situation in ukraine and how high is the casualty rate. Obviously ideally I don't want to get seriously hurt but depending on the risk I may take this chance.

  1. All I can say is what we see on wiki. Active forces un Ukraine as of end of 2023, 800,000. Estimated casualties on Ukraine side, 400,000. Risk is extremely high. Unless you have a direct stake, it doesn’t seem like a plan to be keen on.

  2. You’ll get droned, bro. Don’t do such things for fun

  3. If you want for the “job,” you must look for units that have that mindset already established. Legion is regarded as the least desirable unit for foreigners nowadays, so do your research

  4. Hey.

If you don’t have any actual connection to the Ukraine (so a personal reason to fight): Think about if you ACTUALLY want it. I won’t gonna tell you what to do or not to do. But you need to realize that it’s a very, very cruel war and you need to realize that this could be the end of your life. Since you were not in the military as far as I understand this, you def. need to answer this question for yourself. It’s no adventure vacation, it’s war. It’s for a good reason, but still – it’s war. Casualty rate depends heavily on the zone – on the front line it’s VERY high for infantry. Simply because of the fibre-optic drones and artillery shelling.

If you will join and fight: I wish you all the best brother, the Ukrainians are great people and I’m sure you will find new friends there.

You should also inform yourself about preparation (fitness, field meals etc.) – where to get the gun / or to bring your own if you can etc. and general equipment that you need (plate carrier, other gear and misc stuff).

  5. You should be both fit physically as well as mentally. Since you lost your job this seems like a diversion from a personal crisis. It is a bad time to take such radical personal decisions. Try to get some coaching on where to go from now.

  6. If you like a good old chaotic cluster fuck then go for it

  7. I wouldn’t join out of looking for a more ‘exciting field’. War is horrible.

  8. I hate to be that guy, but if you have to ask “what is the situation in Ukraine,” then I am willing to wager you have absolutely no business being there and will only get yourself killed.
