  1. If you use the browser you can add `?variant=following` to the end of the URL and it will hide all suggested content, wish you could do it on the app too

  2. 40% bullshit. And another large chunk of the pages were probably unrelated crappy bullshit too. So really barely 30% of your feed is functional. Said another way, 70% of what you saw was bullshit. Why do people use Facebook/Instagram anymore?

  3. Curious as to what the split between pages and friends within your following list is?

ps some unsolicited feedback: Would colour the friends and pages more closely (shades of green) so can more clearly show the following vs not following divide. Biggest takeaway should really be that 39% of the posts you saw were from accounts you don’t follow (the split between pages and friends in your following list would affect this).

  4. Surely a bar graph or pie chart would have been a better visualization for this?

  5. I don’t get the appeal of feed-based social media where the algorithm “feeds” you content based on what it thinks will keep you engaged. Does it not feel insulting or infantilizing? Especially when they try to feed you something new to see if you can get “hooked” on it like they’re some sort of pusher.

  6. Instagram is ass. Advertising machine with extremely little amount of good quality content.

People love to hate on tiktok, but the quality of content is (or can be) much higher than IG

  7. I mean you can turn off the suggested posts I don’t know why anyone would leave them on. That is a lot of sponsored content however.

  8. Like you were already told last week, this is the opposite of beautiful.

  9. I don’t know if this will work on Insta, but I learned that on Facebook, when I went through my feed and hid *every single post* from people who were “recommended” but who I wasn’t following, and I did this enough times, it eventually stopped suggesting people who I wasn’t already friends with.

  10. Would be interesting to know the percentage of pages you follow compared to friends.
