Croatia welcomed 4.96 million tourists in August 2025, the same as in August last year, while the 31.1 million overnight stays marked a 2 percent decline, according to data from the eVisitor system published on Monday by the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ).

Foreign visitors made up the majority, with just over 4.4 million arrivals — unchanged compared to August 2024 — and 27.2 million overnight stays, down 2 percent. Domestic tourism, however, showed growth: half a million Croatian tourists visited in August, 4 percent more than last year, with 3.9 million overnight stays, a stable result year-on-year.

Accommodation Trends

Most overnight stays (86 percent) were recorded in commercial accommodation facilities, followed by 11 percent in non-commercial stays and 3 percent in nautical tourism. Private households once again led among commercial providers, with 13 million overnight stays — a 2.8 percent drop compared to last year. Camps followed with 6.3 million nights, down 1.7 percent, while hotels recorded 5.1 million overnight stays, the only major category to post growth, at around 1 percent.

Key Source Markets

Germany remained the largest source market, with 6.7 million overnight stays in August, though this represented a 5.8 percent decline compared to last year. Domestic tourists ranked second with 3.9 million overnight stays, while Slovenians were third with 2.9 million, down 0.4 percent.

Polish tourists were among the few markets to register growth, achieving 2.3 million overnight stays — a 7.4 percent increase. Austrians (2 million nights) and Italians (1.8 million) both recorded declines of 3.1 percent, while Czech tourists stayed 1.3 million nights, a decrease of 4.5 percent.

The top ten markets were rounded out by Slovaks and Dutch visitors (just over one million nights each, down 3.9 and 10.2 percent respectively), and the United Kingdom. British tourists were one of the few positive performers, with 952,500 overnight stays, up 2.1 percent compared to August 2024.
