Newcastle United fans have had their say after witnessing Alexander Isak’s return to action.

The striker has effectively had the summer off, having refused to play for Newcastle United during pre-season and missing their opening three games of the season.

It resulted in him getting what he wanted. Isak joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day, heading to Anfield for a fee of £125million.

Immediately after the deal went through, the 25-year-old linked up with his Sweden teammates. After being an unused substitute in their first game, he finally made his return to action on Monday night.

However, he was unable to have any impact as Sweden lost 2-0 to Kosovo. After the defeat, Isak spoke to the media, expressing his delight at finally becoming a Liverpool player.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes Isak to return to full sharpness. He was only given 20 minutes on Monday night, and was unable to influence the game in that time.

One particular clip has caught the attention of the Newcastle United fans, with Isak seen complaining to the referee about how long the goalkeeper was holding the ball.

Isak counted the seconds on his hands, but the Toon supporters on X have suggested he was counting something else.

“How many weeks did you refuse to train for Alex?” wrote one Newcastle fan.

Another added: “How many weeks were you on strike mate?”

“How many points did I cost Newcastle Utd after refusing to play for them anymore,” commented this Newcastle supporter.

“How many weeks did you refuse to go to work, Alex?” wrote this member of the Toon Army.

This fan asked: “How many clubs have you screwed over in your career Alex?”

Finally, this Toon supporter wrote: “How many weeks did you sit on your a*** getting paid, refusing to play for Newcastle to force a move.”

When will Alexander Isak make his Liverpool debut?

With the international break over for Sweden, Isak can report back to Liverpool and start training like a Premier League player with teammates again. That is something he has not done since the beginning of the summer.

Next on his agenda will be making his Liverpool debut, which could come against Burnley on Sunday. Arne Slot’s side travel to Turf Moor for a 2pm kick-off.

Given his limited training, it is unlikely that Isak will start that game. He will probably be on the bench for the Premier League champions.

If he does come on, he will hope to have a bigger impact than he did against Kosovo.
