Supertramp founding frontman Rick Davies dies at 81 • FRANCE 24 English

[Music] Rick Davies, the only permanent member of the 70s British progressive rock group Super died Saturday at his home after a battle with multiple myoma, a blood cancer. He was 81. His use of the woriter piano and several octave singing range became an iconic part of Super sound. Born in Swindon, England in 1944 to a military father and a hairdresser mother, he loved music from an early age, teaching himself the piano as a child. As a 25-year-old in 1969, he put an ad in the British music magazine Melody Maker, offering a genuine opportunity for good musicians. And 19-year-old Roger Hodgson responded, and together they went on to form Super More than a decade would pass before their 1979 breakout album Breakfast in America, which sold 30 million copies and won two Grammys. The album features the iconic singles the logical song Goodbye Stranger and its title track to play songs. Hodgson left the group in 1983 to pursue a solo career and Davies continued to perform as Super though he would remain the only original member in the group. They played for the last time in 2011 and had to cancel a 2015 soldout tour due to Davey’s declining health.   2. Bought all their LP’s in the 70’s. Then purchased the same albums in CD format in the 80’s. Now I own then in digital format. Right, bloody well right. 😢

  3. Noooooo. This mans voice, Supertramp, it was like this miracle blooming in front of us. A huge part of the soundtrack to my generation. Thank you, Rick Davies, so very much. May the music bring you home.🌷
