Queen Elizabeth II prioritized the monarchy and her family, but King Charles III’s relationship with Prince Harry‘s two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might’ve been a sore spot for the late royal.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have spent very little time around King Charles III, as they’re being raised in California. “I think she would have been absolutely devastated by the fact that the King’s not seeing them [Archie and Lilibet],” royal author Phil Dampier told OK! U.K., when discussing how Queen Elizabeth II would feel about Charles’ strained relationship with the Sussexes.

“They are sixth and seventh in the line of succession at the moment, so she would be very upset,” Phil Dampier noted.

Not only do Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet not spend time in the U.K., but Prince Harry reportedly was never introduced to Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle.

“And I don’t think she would have liked the fact that Harry’s never met [Meghan’s father] Thomas Markle, or that the kids have never met him,” the royal expert continued.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl shared similar sentiments about Prince Harry‘s estrangement from his family, noting, “I’m sure she would be deeply saddened and disappointed by how things have played out with the Duke of Sussex.”

“But I think nothing would really surprise her when it comes to Harry and Meghan because she saw so much herself,” Katie Nicholl noted. “She had to live through the Oprah Winfrey interview [in 2021] and the devastating fallout from that while the Duke of Edinburgh was seriously ill in hospital.”

After Queen Elizabeth II’s death, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released an explosive tell-all documentary, while the duke published a memoir. Since then, Prince Harry has been on the outs.

“And, of course, she had to deal with the fallout of Harry and Meghan leaving. So I think there would just be a great sense of sadness that it had all come to this,” Katie Nicholl shared. “Harry not speaking to his father or his brother, being estranged — ostracized, even — from the family, was certainly not anything she ever wanted.”
