  1. >During Tuesday’s episode, the 67-year-old Four Weddings and a Funeral actress joined host Drew Barrymore’s “50 F— Its” panel via video message to call out the unfair societal expectation that women must always “look young” even as they get older.

    >“Our dear friend of the show who comes here all the time — and someone I worked with when I was 16 years old — the great Andie MacDowell, she sent us in a video,” Barrymore explained before the clip, referencing their 1994 Western Bad Girls. “And I think it really talks about and addresses some of the expectations that we put on ourselves, that society puts on us. Take a look at this.”

    >In the video, MacDowell could be seen standing in a doorway dressed in a floral button-up, tweed blazer, and silver glasses.

    >“I love you, Drew! Thank you for doing this,” she began. “I look back at my grandmother, who was the matriarch. A strong woman. We just revered her. We respected her. We never would’ve ever expected her to look young. That was not a concept that existed.”

    >MacDowell went on to note that this expectation to fit into the standard of beauty has only caused women harm as they age throughout their lives.

    >“This concept has demeaned us as we age. It has now made us feel shameful,” she pointed out. “I have three little grandchildren and I’m gonna be a grandmother for them and I’m gonna look like I’m supposed to look, because I love myself. And I don’t have to look young. And I love you for doing this!”

  2. Women are women’s harshest critics. It’s competitive out there. High heels, make up, hair extensions… it’s all to make you look like something you’re not. But then when you get to sixty you cant pull off the ridiculous make up and heels because you might fall over and hurt yourself, now it’s society’s problem.

It’s just part of the aging process. Get over yourself. Guaranteed this woman didn’t give a hoot about 60 year olds when she was a twenty something.

  3. I’m a straight white guy and every piece of accoutrement and disguise (beyond the subtle basics) you *don’t* have on adds to your attractiveness to *me*. I am a visual person and I generally see through all that stuff, and its presence reads like a bunch of little distractions. I think we make a passing read of people’s fitness, genetically and bodily, and we want that knowledge quickly and honestly. This seems to come from a very old part of the brain, and not from cultural indoctrination. Plus, the more time spent at the makeup table the less time doing something interesting. Interested people are interesting. I think I’m on the extreme end of being visually driven, so take it all with a grain of salt. I’d wager to some it doesn’t matter much, or they might even like makeup and plastic surgery.

  4. Woman who always was, and still is attractive for her age bravely continues to look attractive.

  5. YES! My mother was one of those youth chasing ladies. It’s such a miserable existence. I chose to not live this way.

I love being a Nana with gray hair and laugh lines. I earned all of it.

  6. Easy for her to say since she looked practically identical for 40 straight years.

  7. Good for her. She’s aging gracefully like all people should

  8. Would a 67 year old woman rather look like a 67 woman OR a 35 year old lizard-cat-primate hybrid???

  9. Her part is 4 weddings and a funeral sealed it.
She and Carole King are just ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽

  10. Easy to say when you’re still a smoke show at her age

  11. I’m just happy Andie MacDowell is still SLAMing

  12. Looking at her neck I would say there’s a zero percent chance she hasn’t had any maintenance done

  13. Why not argue for ugly people having better career opportunities? Not just movies, but the stats show they are worse off every-where.

  14. I remember her face on a box of women’s hair dye.

  15. I think Jamie Lee Curtis recently referred to it as the Plastic Surgery Industrial Complex

  16. I’ve been watching her in The Way Home. She looks fantastic in that. And it’s a better show than I was originally expecting it to be.

  17. Just saw her walking around the silverlake rez. She looks amazing

  18. She’s right! Betty White was beautiful for just being Betty White. I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise!

  19. love when someone who looks amazing for their age comes out with something like this as if they’re striking some mortal blow to society’s beauty expectations

  20. She’s gonna be fine as hell til the day she dies, so like, easy for you to say!! Ughhh

  21. I worship any woman who says this. The way fillers and injections are wiping out natural beauty is terrifying and extremely sad. Emily Blunt, just one recent example – so naturally pretty, early 40’s & now has a new face jammed to the hilt with fillers. She ruined her looks and it’s just very sad. And the veneers everyone’s getting . Even worse !!!. The ridiculous lips and teeth & all the injections. Please stop!!

  22. I’m just glad an attractive model had something to say about it

  23. It definitely helps if you were a model, have great genes, and access to expensive skin care routine. Don’t get me wrong, she looks amazing.

  24. The reality is none of us will look back the same as we age. You can decide to age naturally or not. But if you’re over 80 (like my neighbor) the lip injections and Botox smooth skin look like a Halloween mask….I try not to look anymore.

  25. Who says that though? I’ve never heard anyone say anything like that

  26. And she still looks radiant so everyone criticizing her looks should quit their bitching

  27. Same story since the beginning of human history. Women get old. Men get old. Men stop being attracted to their body. Men still say the same thing. I love you for who you are inside. Women don’t change. Men don’t change. Their bodies do though. You will look like your suppose to. Whether you try and fight it…or you don’t.
