French political crisis ‘very bad news for the EU’ • FRANCE 24 English

Well, more reaction for you now because of course France along with Germany, the two big powerhouses of the European Union. So, let’s have the reaction then from Brussels. Earlier we spoke to our correspondent Dave Keiting in Brussels. France is the second biggest country in the EU and political instability there means political instability for the European Union at a moment where the EU finds itself rather leaderless. President Mcron has been extremely distracted with these domestic issues. hasn’t really been able to take a leadership role on the European stage. He’s largely considered a lame duck for that reason here in Brussels at the moment. And then there’s concern about the specific policy issue that prompted this no confidence vote, which is the budget that was attempting to deal with France’s debt and deficit. Now, the EU has commanded France to deal with that debt and deficit. Last year, the commission found France to be in violation of the union’s budget rules. Those rules were set up after the debt crisis involving uh Greece first uh 15 years ago. In reality, France had been in violation of those rules for some time. The commission has taken a very soft approach with France. The question is now that it becomes clear that uh it’s very unlikely that France is going to be able to have a politically stable enough government that’s able to enact the reforms that need to be done in order to tackle the debt and deficit by 2029 with which France has committed to do uh to the commission. Will the commission start to get more tough with France over the next weeks and months? Uh but overall this is very bad news for the EU as second largest country is dealing with political instability and financial turmoil.

Legislators toppled France’s government in a confidence vote on Monday, a new crisis for Europe’s second-largest economy that also spells trouble for the European Union at a moment where the bloc finds itself in need of strong leadership, says France 24’s correspondent in Brussels Dave Keating.

  1. Australia is heading down the same path. We have a Government in that won’t stop spending and don’t have the money to cover the spending so they’re dreaming up all sorts of taxes for its constituents after making political promises to not only lower taxes but build heaps of new housing and fix our crisis in healthcare, not only have they not followed through on any promises they have brought in hundreds of thousands of immigrants without informing the public and giving the immigrants housing over there own Australian people who are living in there cars and tents, every single living expenses has skyrocketed from cheese to electric bills. Families are truly struggling and our Prime Minister couldn’t care less he’s off jet setting around the world at tax payers expense. Needless to say Australians are very upset with the Government right now and want the current prime minister to be also Impeached.

  2. The French voted for uncontested socialism for decades. Now the consequences are starting to appear. The French are too stubborn to realize their mistake, and won’t abandon it until the entire country is gone. Oh well! 🇺🇸 🥂

  5. FRANCE PRESENT POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL CRISIS WILL LEAD TO RESTRUCTURING OF THE EUROPEAN UNION. PRESENT NUMBER OF COUNTRIES ARE 28 IT WILL REDUCE TO 10 FRANCE IS PART OF CORE EUROPE IT WILL SURVIVE ALSO JUPITER KING EMMANUEL MACRON WILL REMAIN IN POWER HE WILL PICK HIS FIFTH PRIME MINISTER.

  6. You are confusing ethnicity with citizenship. Your being born to a Latin mom means your cultural background is Latin. It will always be Latin, no matter what country your Dad is from. Your Dad being an American only means he is an American citizen. It says nothing about what his culture or race might be.

We all confuse ethnicity with race. We used to say, white, black, red, yellow were races. It is based on perceived colors of skin. Now we seem to consider Black, Mexican, White, Muslim, Chinese, African, Native American, Pacific Islanders, etc., as races. In some cases, yes, but in most, it is cultural ethnicity/identity.

Don't get caught up in the swamp of “othering” people on differences, apparent or suspected. We are all the same beneath our skin, HUMANS

  7. i am a grown man. when i think about what the french did to my ancestors as slaves in the Caribbean, tears drip from my eyes. much tears are on the FRENCH.

  8. The French need to work longer work weeks and retire later in life before they can collect pensions. Austerity isn't the issue, bringing in enough state revenues and retaining more of them is the issue. French workers want more than they've earned in life. Work 40 hour weeks, pay taxes on each hour worked, retire at 67. As longevity increases with better medical care, retirement age must also go up. These two items will also increase GDP and international competitiveness.

  9. The United States is robbing the EU's money, China is robbing the EU's industry, but the EU suspects that Russia wants to grab European land, so they killed their own cheap energy suppliers and bought Russian crude oil from India. This fully reflects the political wisdom of the European political elites. They even shamelessly intimidated the people to make them pay for the Ukrainian war and shamelessly divided the profits with arms dealers.

  10. Граждане Франции выходите на митинги и протесты против фашистской власти макрона, иначе лягушка макрон доведет республику до ядерного апокалипсиса.

  11. KISASA KISAS ….
Fransız iç savaşına her türlü destek şart …el altından silah verin aynı onların PKK ya yaptığı yardımları gibi…
