Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador is warning Idahoans about a rise in cryptocurrency ATM scams.
Cryptocurrency ATMs resemble traditional machines and are commonly found in gas stations and convenience stores.
While they are used for legitimate transactions, scammers are exploiting them to steal money.
The Attorney General’s Office says cryptocurrency losses in the state jumped from $19 million dollars in 2023 to more than $35 million dollars in 2024.
Idahoans are urged to be cautious of calls from individuals claiming to be from tech support, the IRS or local law enforcement, requests for urgent payment using cryptocurrency, and threats of legal consequences of account suspensions.
