Wow that’s insane, anyway off to work to earn enough to pay someone else’s mortgage
CityAM with their eye on the issues affecting normal Londoners as ever
My heart bleeds for them 💔
Good
The horror of being downgraded from “very profitable” to “profitable”.
Let me play my little violin for them.
oh no, anyway
There was a big drop in value of central London properties relative to outer London properties following covid – because most people live a bit further out, they only need to come into the office once or twice a week.
Guessing this is a good opportunity for businesses to convert residential properties? Except that offices aren’t needed much either
Gosh. I wonder if they will bring out some kind of financial product to improve yields. Keep us updated, City AM!

My heart bleeds for the rats

From 1.77% to 2.89% annually according to this article. That’s below interest rate on a saving account.
Brb, getting my tiny violin
Oh no, my orange appears to be out of juice. It appears I’ve squeezed and squeezed and squeezed and nothing more is coming out. This can’t be a me problem though, surely? I blame the orange
When the elite rich finally realise that infact, most brits are on low income and they can’t keep fleecing us. Maybe then we will have functional wages
Even if being a landlord didn’t make any profit at all, it would still be a worthwhile investment to buy a house and have someone else pay the mortgage for you. Hell, even if they “lost” money each month and rent was below the cost of the mortgage payment, they’re still getting a full price house at a reduced price mortgage. There’s almost no way for being a landlord to not be an attractive investment.
my landlord owns over 10 properties that he inherited and has still been increasing the rent for the last 4 years, i’m sure he’ll be ok
The data is totally wrong. No way you can rent a one bedroom flat at 1200pcm.
Not what the article or study says and shows how language subtly shifts things.
It actually says *becoming* a landlord in 2025 by purchasing a property and renting it is not very profitable.
But that’s because the landlords have already purchased lots of houses in those boroughs and now they are worth a lot more.
We already know housing stock is very low. Buying at todays prices and renting it out won’t do well because the sales price of the houses are based on local rent prices and vice versa.
I did make an honest attempt, but I’m afraid I can’t summon any sympathies.
Let’s all have a moment of silence for the most parasitic cretins in our society
“The dozen properties that I’ve been charging people through the nose to rent aren’t making me as much money anymore because my properties are now worth more”.
The absolute horror.
Aww diddums. They’re parasites and shouldn’t exist
Wait let me get out my tiniest tiniest violin
Being a landord anywhere should not be “very profitable”. Sure, some but not this “it’s my pension” bullshit.
Now where did I leave the world’s tiniest violin?
Lets all join in prayer and pray for these poor poor landlords
The buy to let landlords NEVER include the FACT that they get to keep the property someone else is paying for. The landlords who own the property already, well – anything they say about the hardships of being a landlord is auto lol.
Lemme go find my teeny tiny violin.
Go get a job then

Thank god, I hadn’t seen that picture from Muswell Hill in connection with property in what, 3 days?
Renting in London is also no longer very profitable.
Good
Good, fuck idiot landlords.
The annual returns might be lower than what you get in a savings account, but how many people get a free flat in central London after maintaining a savings account for twenty years ffs
Oh no! Anyway…
Oh no! Anyways…
Sad trombone noise
All this means is rents are going to go up.
PLEASE OP TELL ME THAT MY LANDLORD CAN STILL AFFORD THE 4TH HOLIDAY THIS YEAR I CAN’T COPE WITH A LIFE WHERE THEY ONLY GO ABROAD EVERY 4 MONTHS, I feel like all my sacrifices to give them a better life are in vain 🙁
