This morning, official media reported that the Russian Navy launched a new exercise in the North Pacific, featuring a significant deployment of nuclear submarines and Bastion coastal missile systems. According to reports, the main objective of the activity is to demonstrate the Navy’s capabilities to protect its key maritime routes in the region, while also strengthening operational procedures between ships and ground forces.

In the words of the press service of the Russian Pacific Fleet: “The exercise is the final combat training event of the Pacific Fleet’s summer training period and aims to test the combat readiness of forces and troops, as well as military command authorities to conduct defensive combat operations.” It is worth noting that the activities come just days after the conclusion of the first joint patrol carried out by Russian and Chinese submarines in the North Pacific, further highlighting the growing level of naval activity in the region and the defense partnership between the two countries.

Expanding on the details, official sources stated that the maneuvers will take place off the coasts of the Kamchatka and Chukotka regions, both located at Russia’s far eastern borders. The exercise is part of a broader training plan overseen by Admiral Viktor Liina, Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet. Moscow also revealed that the operations will involve around ten ships, helicopters, and fighter aircraft from the fleet, along with an unspecified number of coastal batteries.

Additionally, it was emphasized that the event will provide opportunities for crews to train in detecting and tracking a simulated enemy submarine, conducting air defense maneuvers, and launching anti-ship missiles against naval targets, both individually and as part of group operations. Furthermore, it was noted that the participating fighters will carry out interception and neutralization missions against unmanned threats, whose presence on modern battlefields is increasingly common.

Finally, it is worth recalling that earlier this week, the submarine K-554 Emperor Alexander III returned to its home port in the Kamchatka region after more than three months at sea. It is one of the seven Borei-A class submarines currently in service with the Russian Navy, ranking among the most modern in operation today. As with the exercises launched today, it was reported that the submarine had been involved in training missions aimed at strengthening the Kremlin’s surveillance over these strategic waters.
