A Houston family’s 4-year dream went up in flames.
HOUSTON — A family-owned scooter rental shop in Houston is reeling after a fast-moving fire ripped through the business early Thursday morning, destroying nearly all of its inventory and leaving the future of the store uncertain.
H-Town Scooters, which the Rosales family has operated for four years, was reduced to ash and charred debris after a charging cable connected to scooter batteries sparked and ignited the blaze, the family said.
“It means a lot to us — it’s literally like our baby that we grew,” said co-owner Georgene Rosales.
What was once a lobby full of electric vehicles is now blackened with soot.
“It was heartbreaking,” Rosales said. “You walk in here and you look at everything and you’re just like, oh wow.”
The family estimates the damages at roughly $70,000 for the inventory alone.
Adding to the hardship, Rosales said her disabled daughter’s wheelchair was also destroyed in the fire.
“The wheelchair has to be specially made for her, and everything’s got to be put together,” she explained. “It takes about three months.”
Despite the devastation, Rosales said the family is determined to push forward.
“We are trying our best to survive this, and hopefully this is not the end of us,” she said.
