Last June, Italy’s tourism balance of payments recorded a surplus of €3,6 billion, up from the same month in 2024; tourism receipts (€6,5 billion) increased by 6,5 percent, while outgoings (€2,9 billion) increased by 4,4 percent. This is according to statistics on Italy’s international tourism, published by the Bank of Italy.
Overall, both flows continued to grow in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year, driven primarily by holiday travel. The increase in foreign spending in Italy (5,6 percent) is attributable to the increase in the number of tourists and, to a lesser extent, average spending; the increase in spending abroad (5,9 percent) is instead due almost entirely to the greater number of travelers.
The growth in incoming travelers affected both non-EU and EU travelers. Conversely, outgoing travelers increased significantly in European destinations than in non-EU countries.
