A man from Gambia was arrested in connection with the importation of some 10 kilogrammes of cannabis, with a street value of €10,000, the police said Saturday.

The 44-year-old was arrested on Thursday after a search was conducted by the police after it was informed that he had left Malta International Airport leaving a piece of luggage behind.

He had arrived in Malta from Lisbon on 30 August.

The luggage contained 40 packets of cannabis, weighing 10 kilogrammes.

Magistrate Joseph Mifsud is leading an inquiry.
