Google hit with massive fine from European Union in ad-tech antitrust case • FRANCE 24 English

a nearly $3.5 billion dollar fine from EU regulators for anti-competitive practices in online advertising. With this latest sanction, the European Commission wants to send a strong message to Google. It’s giving the tech giant 60 days to come up with a plan to comply with EU regulations or face additional penalties. Google abused its dominant position in adtech, harming publishers, advertisers, and consumers. If it fails to propose a viable plan, the commission will not hesitate to impose an appropriate remedy. The commission says Google took advantage of its near monopoly over the ad tax sector to favor its own ads and content, breaching the EU’s antitrust rules. It was the third penalty in a week for the company, which has also been told to pay a $425 million fine in the US and a $380 million fine in France for breaching privacy regulations. Google said it planned to appeal the EU’s latest decision and US President Donald Trump lashed out at the European Commission, threatening to impose his own sanctions if the fine wasn’t lifted. Very unfair. and the American taxpayer will not stand for it. As I have said before, my administration will not allow these discriminatory actions to stand. The European Publishers Council, which brought the initial complaint against Google, hailed the fine as a step in the right direction, but warned it wasn’t enough to force the tech giant to change its business practices.

European Union regulators on Friday hit Google with a 2.95 billion euro ($3.5 billion) fine for breaching the bloc’s competition rules by favoring its own digital advertising services, but the bloc’s latest move to crack down on Big Tech companies drew outrage from President Donald Trump. 1. A fine defined on profits not on rules and when and where these were broken, without Google the world would be operating in the 70 ties, and if they had to wait for Brussels they would be no future or progress Google is being prosecuted for helping them to achieve things become outdated and the EU belongs in this category

  2. American tech companies are monopolistic and must be taxed heavily. They're not only have huge profit margins but also using the data of the whole word, which MUST come at a cost. Data should not be freely available to American tech monopolies

  3. Fine should be in % of revenue rather than whole number or else it will be just cost of doing business for the company

  4. WHY are services OUT OF REACH regarding the tariffs and taxes, while goods are NOT, and WHO forced that rule on the WTO? (USA did it some decades ago, for sure)

  5. In usa Google gets away with everything, in Europe Google has to pay the piper . H1b programmers invaded us privacy, turning off location still broadcasts information to Google, data collection on Android phones is unacceptable USA has to stop hiring individual rights and go after rich people instead !

  6. Selectively targeting American tech companies is detrimental to European success. Any law should apply equally to American and non-American companies.

  7. Another EU greed move… Seriously billions in fines to a successful company.. added to all the tariffs they've imposed over the decades. How about the EU actually innovate instead of only fine and impose tariffs? Might work out better for them.
