September the 14th, 2025 – A Chinese company is set to construct a brand new Zagreb entrance for a hefty price tag exceeding 63 million euros.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the well known Chinese company CRBC, which famously constructed the Pelješac Bridge and the Kozjak Tunnel, recently won another new tender. The aforementioned Chinese company will construct a new southern Zagreb entrance at a price of 67.3 million euros, and the works could start this autumn and last until 2029, according to a report from Večernji list.

The Chinese company became known to the Croatian public after they built the Pelješac Bridge, got involved with the Kozjak Tunnel, which will become the new entrance to Split from the A1, and now they’ll create a new Zagreb entrance. The Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) won the long-running tender run by Croatian Motorways (HAC) for the construction of a viaduct that will connect the Zagreb bypass with Sarajevska cesta in Novi Zagreb, thus becoming the new southern entrance to the capital. It’s worth keeping in mind that the construction of this entrance has been promised for four decades.

The Chinese company offered a lower price than their competition and committed to carrying out the work on the new Zagreb entrance for 67.3 million euros including VAT. That’s almost two million euros less than the estimated value of the work in the tender, which stood at 69 million euros.

Currently, there is a ten-day standstill period, the decision will be delivered to the companies that applied for the tender, and they will then have ten days to file any appeals they might have. If there are no appeals, the works will be put into operation. That means that the Chinese company could start working on the project this autumn, which has a completion date of approximately two and a half to three years. That means that the new entrance to Zagreb could be opened to traffic no earlier than 2029.
