It’s still a bit of a surprise to see the bridge painted red rather than grey. Suits it, though
I really like that it’s just this big ass bridge over a river that’s made of iron, and it was somehow my favourite place to visit as a kid
Went there years ago, lovely place.
Yep. It’s iron.
I hope you had a pasty from over the road !
It’s amazing how beautiful Ironbridge is considering how much of a shit hole Telford is just five minutes away.
I have an iron bridge about a couple of miles from me, but it’s nowhere near as impressive as this one.
On a similar theme, I went to Fingringhoe today…
Makes a great picture of you get side on, turns into complete circle
Definitely a bridge, definitely made of iron. Your mission was a success.
Ah, the birthplace of the British industrial revolution.
Somehow more of a tourist attraction than Stoneybridge, with it’s stony bridge!
Joking aside, I recall visiting as a kid. Remembering the blacksmiths shop nearby as being more interesting to my 8 or 9 year-old self.
“Any idiot can build a bridge that stands, but it takes an engineer to build a bridge that barely stands”
Did you get the lovely beef dripping chips nearby?
Pretty wild yall made this in the 1700s
I work with someone that used to work at Telford Council in Emergency Planning. I was surprised at first to learn they have an emergency plan for if the bridge collapses.
Makes sense, I guess, but feels a bit doom and gloom to suggest that.
Did you go to Blists Hill Victorian Town while you were there? Loved it
My Great Grandfather x9 owed the blast furnaces that were rented to Darby to smelt the iron.
Was there this morning! Got a pasty and pie from Eley’s…a must 😁
I love that it is made from Iron but looking at the construction methods those are mostly from woodworking.
Oh the irony!
I suppose its a Gorge-ous enough area.
And you took a picture of Ironbridge which included an iron bridge from The Iron Bridge!
Is there a weight limit over the bridge? Can’t imagine you get 44T over that.
My fil took a German metallurgy engineer friend there about 20 years ago
Fair to say a very knowledgeable gentleman, he was speechless at what he was looking at and the dates
Just kept shaking his head
