A delegation, including big names in Egypt’s oil and gas industry, attended the first Baghdad International Energy Forum, held from September 6-7 under the theme “Towards Optimal Investment in Oil and Gas in Parallel with the Energy Transition.”
The delegation, authorized by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, included Ehab Ragaee, First Undersecretary of the Ministry for Production; Salah Abdel Kerim, Chairman of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC); and several other sector leaders.
During the opening session, Ragaee participated in a panel discussion on national interests in the global energy system. He presented key features of Egypt’s national energy strategy, emphasizing sustainability and balanced energy supplies. He also highlighted the importance of international cooperation to maintain market stability amid political and economic changes.
On the sidelines of the forum, the delegation held meetings with senior officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, including Hayan Abdul Ghani, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, as well as heads of several Iraqi companies such as Midland Refineries. The discussions explored prospects for joint cooperation and examined possibilities for Egypt to support the Iraqi oil sector through consultations and operational services.
Members of the delegation met with representatives of Egyptian companies operating in Iraq, including the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET), Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI), Egypt Maintenance Company (EMC), and Alexandria Petroleum Maintenance Company (Petromaint). They emphasized strengthening partnerships and exchanging expertise between the two countries to support regional integration in the oil and energy fields. Discussions also covered arrangements for the entry of Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM) into refinery operation and maintenance in Iraq, in cooperation with specialized Iraqi companies, as part of comprehensive plans adhering to the highest international standards.
