Tehran – BORNA – The Emergency Summit of Islamic and Arab leaders was held in Doha over the past two days to discuss regional developments, particularly Israel’s continuing atrocities in Gaza and its recent attack on Qatar.

In an interview, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei provided details of the summit. “The summit began with a meeting of foreign ministers on Sunday afternoon, where significant discussions took place. The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, as host and chair, described Israel’s attack on Qatar as an unprecedented act in flagrant violation of all norms and rules of international law,” he said.

Baghaei added that during the meeting, a draft of the summit’s final statement was circulated, and member states also outlined their positions.

He also referred to bilateral meetings held by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi with his counterparts from Pakistan, Lebanon, Somalia, Egypt, and several other countries. “In these meetings, in addition to reviewing Iran’s bilateral relations with these states, regional developments—particularly the need to halt the genocide in Gaza and support the oppressed Palestinian people—were discussed,” Baghaei said.

Highlighting Monday’s session of heads of state, the Iranian diplomat described the wide participation of Islamic and Arab leaders as “significant,” noting: “This summit, convened less than a week after Israel’s attack on Qatar, reflects the region’s serious recognition of the danger posed by this regime’s expansionism and warmongering.”

Baghaei cautioned that failure to take decisive action by Islamic and regional countries could allow such aggressions to be repeated elsewhere in the region.

He described the summit as a turning point in collective efforts by Islamic countries to safeguard the security and stability of West Asia, expressing hope that its outcomes will translate into concrete measures to restrain Israel and support the Palestinian people.
