MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — The PGA TOUR’s ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic continues to make a major impact both on and off the golf course.
At a check presentation on Monday, nine local charities received a total of $225,000 all while new numbers show the event is delivering record results for the Grand Strand economy.
“Yeah, there’s an economic impact for sure. Last year we had $15.4 million in economic impact, and then we had about 50% of the spectators that came to the tournament were beyond 50 miles of Myrtle Beach,” Darren Nelson, tournament director from May 2025. “So to have those folks coming in to spend those dollars in the community, whether it’s with hotels or just buying gas, whatever it may be, really has a good impact on the economy here in Myrtle Beach.”

In 2025, that impact has only grown.
Tournament officials told ABC15 that this year’s event generated $15.8 million dollars, surpassing last year’s mark despite weather challenges.
They said more than half of attendees came from outside the Grand Strand, driving new tourism dollars to hotels, restaurants and local businesses.
Beyond boosting the economy, the Classic also gave back directly to the community.

Nine area nonprofits shared in $225,000, including Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina.
“We’re very, very grateful. Anytime we can get donations,” Carol Dion, president of Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina. “So that $4,500 is going to go towards the shipping of our Hero Boxes. So it does make a difference. If we didn’t get donations like this, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”
In two years, tournament officials said the Classic has generated more than $31 million dollars into the Grand Strand economy, while also supporting local charities with more than $400,000 in donations.
The OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic will return next year to the Dunes Golf and Beach Club May 7-10.
