Crvena zvezda coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos shared his impressions following the friendly matches in Cyprus, singling out Chima Moneke for special praise.
Crvena Zvezda suffered a heavy defeat against Paris 107:70 but bounced back with a win over Monaco 86:79.
“Chima always brings energy to the team, something extra in all aspects of the game, both in defense and offense, and we are very happy to have him with us,” Ioannis Sfairopoulos told Meridian Sport.
In the match against Monaco, Codi Miller-McIntyre contributed seven assists, while new signing Devonte Graham added six.
“I am very satisfied. Codi was excellent defensively, applying pressure on the ball. That’s what we want from our guards: to be aggressive in defense, but also to share the ball in offense and keep it moving. The most important thing is to lead the team in the right way. Graham came from the NBA and this is his first time in Europe, so he will need some time… We are aware that we will improve as time goes on.”
Crvena Zvezda will start their EuroLeague season on September 30 against Milano at home, followed by a trip to face Bayern in Munich on October 2.
“There are still things we need to work on; we are not yet in competitive rhythm. Our three-point shooting percentage was not good, but that’s normal. Muscles are still tight from training, and we are not yet in the best shape we will reach by the first official game. However, we saw some encouraging signs, including 14 steals, which is very important,” the Greek coach emphasized.
