No communist regime has ever been more than a few steps away from total collapse unless they were being propped up by a much larger economy at the time, and as soon as that’s removed, the slide begins.
The author and his family left Cuba 2 years after the revolution, and you can probably draw some conclusions about his feelings toward Cuba from that.
I just want the people of Cuba to be able to decide how they want to run their own country without foreign intervention.
At this point the US is maintaining the embargo just because of their pride.
Ever since I learned how to read, I have also learned that Cuba is in a state of imminent collapse. It was imminent 15 years ago, it became inescapable 10 years ago, it would happen any day now 5 years ago and it’s almost here now.
I’m sure it will almost be collapse time in 10 years time too.
Going on 70 years of militaristic capitalist imperialist interference
Cuba was NOT allowed to exist in a vacuum, so I never felt judging it for its political or economic processes was fair from me. Kind of like Haiti, a far more powerful country had their boot on her neck and contemporary powers (if the US could be said to truly have any that were equal enough) just stood and watched. That’s not right.
All these people here shilling for an authoritarian regime that won’t hold elections, meanwhile governments that have similar wealth easily keep the lights on.
They can get help when they hold elections. Until then, they live and die by their government’s choices.
