Luxembourg has announced that it will join a number of countries in recognizing the state of Palestine at the UN summit in New York next week.

French President Emmanuel Macron is leading the campaign for recognition of the Palestinian state, while international condemnation of Israel for its nearly two-year offensive in Gaza is growing.

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden said that “the situation on the ground has deteriorated significantly in recent months,” AFP reported.

“A movement is emerging in Europe and around the world to show that the two-state solution is still relevant. That is why the Luxembourg government intends to join those who recognize the state of Palestine at the conference on the two-state solution to be held next week,” Frieden said.
