A smartphone video surfaced this week apparently showing a deadly bear attack in a mountainous spot in northern Greece last June, which claimed the life of a 60-year-old local man.
The victim along with another man, a friend, had trekked to the plotted wreckage of a WWII-era plan on a mountainside in Drama prefecture when the large brown bear attacked.
In an attempt to flee, Christos Stavrianidis inadvertently fell off a ravine, but before he fatal plunge his cellphone had recorded the attack.
The device was found several hours later.
The video was shown on the prime-time newscast of Mega Channel in an exclusive report.
The dialogue between the two men is heard on the video, with one calling out to the other, scenes of the bear running, and the victim urging his friend, Dimitris” to pepper spray the bear.
The emergence of the video footage, a Mega exclusive, also ends rampant speculation that followed the June 10 incident over exactly what transpired on the mountainside.
