When in doubt, go for a coat dress! Kate Middleton recreated one of her trusty looks to greet President Trump and First Lady Melania in Windsor.
The Princess of Wales and her husband Prince William are playing a key role in the US leader’s state visit this week, with the two couples meeting for their first joint engagement on Wednesday.
Royal fashion star Kate has long looked to Emilia Wickstead for inspiration and she opted to wear a coat dress in one of her favourite colours, burgundy, by the British designer for the outing.

She styled the coat dress that had a pleated skirt and black buttons across the front with a hat by Jane Taylor, which had a bow detail to the side and netting across the front.
Kate accessorised the look with her sparkling feather brooch, which once belonged to her mother-in-law Princess Diana, and contains 18 round-cut diamonds with small emeralds.

To complete the look, Kate toted a small Chanel handbag with an ornate gold and red top handle that she often uses when wearing burgundy.
Kate has previously worn the bag to welcome Emir of Qatar and his wife to the UK on a state visit in 2024 and as far back as 2017 when she visited Paris.
If Kate’s burgundy coat dress look feels familiar to you, then that’d be because royal watchers are well used to seeing the mum-of-three in red.
Kate wore a similar coat dress by Emilia Wickstead to meet South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2022 and more recently for the 80th Anniversary of the V-E Day Commemorations in May.

On these occasions, although the coat dress had the same swooping neckline, it didn’t have black buttons across the front, suggesting they’re a new addition to the garment.
On Wednesday, Kate and William greeted the Trumps in the Walled Garden on the Windsor estate after they arrived by helicopter.

President Trump was certainly taken with Kate’s outfit, telling the Princess ‘you’re so beautiful’ after getting off of his Marine One helicopter.
The couples then walked towards Victoria House to greet King Charles and Queen Camilla, who was forced to miss the Duchess of Kent’s funeral on Tuesday due to illness.

After shaking hands, the Trumps and royals climbed into carriages for a procession around Windsor’s grounds that saw more than 150 members of the armed forces take part.
The Trumps are then set to view items from the Royal Collection that relate to the US before a banquet is held in their honour on Thursday evening.
