  1. Eh? What’s the crown estate doing with the Veeraswamy site? That was an interesting tidbit from the body of the article.

  2. My partner got food poisoning from here about a month ago. Emailed them about it, asked to fill in a form, which I did then they went silent. Absolutely avoid this place.

Do you want some curry with your pubes?

  4. First Veeraswamy and now this. Looks like owner didn’t comp off some big dawg his curry lunch.

  5. Went to the Islington one years ago before it closed and liked it. Would have been shocked to find out the hygiene standards could be so bad at another branch.

  6. so an EHO came into the cafe i work in this summer.

they walked in during the middle of the morning rush and just started rifling through cupboards without speaking to anyone working there. the manager asked them what they were doing and they said an inspection (didn’t say it was a hygiene inspection or anything like that and was wearing gym wear) and the manager politely said ‘not now mate we have a queue’ and asked them to grab a seat and wait for the rush to clear so they could chat. they left in a huff without saying anything and sent a bad rating over when the site has had 5 stars for years.

the manager complained and used the ‘right to respond’ and the council said they would send someone in the next couple of weeks. It’s been 3 months since and nobody ever came back so now the rating is low.

honestly it made me question a lot of the bad ratings you see considering how seriously this place takes its hygiene. the people doing the ratings are not exactly the most impressive people. it feels like it’s the sort of thing they should standardised and bring to a modern standard that isn’t done by whoever gets churned out to work there by the local council reshuffles.

  7. Often you can get a bad rating for things like not filling out correct paperwork as opposed to having poor standards of cleaning

  8. I went to Masala Zone once 12 years ago and there was a big chunk of plastic in my food. Never been back. I prefer my plastics of the micro variety.

  9. Zero means no working hand wash facilities if I remember correctly

  10. Two out of the four restaurants scored 5/5 and 4/5, seems like the management were lax in the other restaurants.

  11. I always check food ratings and never eat at anywhere below a 4. More people should do the same. No excuse for a food establishment to be so careless and disgusting.

  12. I’m absolutely shocked to hear this. I know things aren’t great these day but I am disgusted and troubled by the news that Masala Zone is popular.

  13. Found plastic in my curry the one time I went. No surprise

  14. Yikes, that’s a damning rating. The first-hand account of food poisoning and being ghosted after reporting it is especially concerning. It really seems like there’s a major breakdown in both their kitchen management and customer service. A zero is no accident; it’s a clear sign to steer clear.

  15. Does a 0 rating not mean they are closed down immediately? How are they allowed to stay open?

  16. Just a mediocre chain. Loads of better Indian restaurants in central London. Last one I went to was Maharajah on Charing Cross Road. Can recommend.
