Kirk suspect, Tyler Robinson, faces death penalty for aggravated murder charge • FRANCE 24 English

Robinson faces seven charges, including aggravated murder and witness tampering, but he didn’t enter a plea. Mr. Robinson for count one aggravated murder, a capital felony in violation of Utah code annotated 76-5-202 in that on September 10th, 2025 in Utah County, the defendant, Tyler James Robinson, intentionally or knownly caused the death of Charlie Kirk. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Just for the court’s information, we did file just recently, within the last few minutes, a notice of intent to seek the death penalty that was filed uh by Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray. Kirk was shot last Wednesday while speaking at a university in Utah. Authorities say he was targeted for his political views. Robinson was arrested just 33 hours later after police tracked him using surveillance footage. Kirk was a prominent conservative voice known for campus speeches and millions of social media followers. Robinson’s legal battle is only just beginning. His next court hearing is set for the 29th of September as investigators continue piecing together the events that led to Kirk’s death.

Tyler Robinson fired a single fatal shot from the rooftop of a building overlooking the outdoor venue where Kirk was speaking to about 3,000 people on Sept. 10, investigators say. Afterward, prosecutors say he texted with the partner, who he lived with near St. George, Utah, about 240 miles (387 kilometers) southwest of the campus.
