Israel has started main part of Gaza City ground operation, military says • FRANCE 24 English

One of Gaza City’s tallest tower blocks up in smoke. It housed civilians, journalists, and aid workers. They warned us they plan to demolish the tower, so we fled. This tower and others like it are not military targets. Israel’s claim that these buildings are be used by Hamas is false. Netanyahu’s goal seems to be to push us south. The Israeli military has called up tens of thousands of reserveists and been preparing this ground offensive for months despite opposition from some army officials. Evacuation orders were issued for around 1 million Gaza city residents. Thousands are fleeing south towards a so-called humanitarian zone that’s already overcrowded and lacking sufficient food, water, and shelter. We have been displaced more than 20 times so far. We have become homeless. Where can I go with my children? My husband is in one area and my children and I are in another. About 90% of Gaza’s 2 million residents have been displaced. In Israel, large protests have criticized the offensive on Gaza City, saying it puts hostages in danger, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to defend his position. There’s still some strongholds that we have to take apart. They’re holding our hostages. We are committed with America to receive to release all the hostages, the living and the dead, and we’re not going to compromise on it. According to Gaza’s health ministry, Israel’s campaign has killed over 64,000 Palestinians, roughly half women and children.

Israel has started the main part of a ground operation to take control of Gaza City, an Israeli military official said on Tuesday, hours after top U.S. diplomat Marco Rubio met with Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, telling him that Washington stood with Israel.

  7. This is no different than what the Turks did to the Armenians and Khmer Rouge did to the Cambodians by forcing the civilian populations out of the city into the desert or killing fields to starve.

  11. I am not blaming Israel. Hamas had years and years to develop Gaza into the Mediterranean's finest beach resort. Now Gaza could be a wealthy place. It could have avoided provoking Israel through a monstruous terror attack. Terrorism has not been conducive to a two-state solution but all of the opposite. Things have consequences, sad as it is that Palestinians do not have their own nation.
