MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – An Ecuadorian man received a prison term after he pleaded guilty in connection to a stabbing that occurred in Marion.
25-year-old Jordy Torres-Cabezas, pleaded guilty to two counts of willful injury in connection to a stabbing that occurred in Marion. It happened at an apartment in the 4000 block of Tama Street SE on September 19, 2024.
Court documents say Jordy Torres-Cabezas, 25, stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a kitchen knife. He then kicked the victim in the face, knocking out multiple teeth.
Torres then allegedly also stabbed the victim again, this time in the left arm, causing a deep laceration. The victim lost a lot of blood from the stabbings and had to have emergency surgery, according to officials.
Torres-Cabezas is a citizen of Ecuador and is in the country illegally. He entered the country illegally in 2022. Officials said he has a history of multiple felony weapon arrests in the state of New York.
After the alleged stabbing in Marion, police said Torres-Cabezas fled the state. Marion police then coordinated with multiple U.S. Marshals fugitive task forces outside of Iowa to find him and arrest him in Valparaiso, Indiana on February 3.
In February, he was charged with willful injury causing bodily injury, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, and use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime.
Torres-Cabezas received a five-year prison sentence on Thursday. His other charges were dropped.
