SEARCY — Jacey Lambert recorded a match-high 16 kills to lead Harding to a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-23, 25-20) of Trevecca Nazarene on Friday in the Harding Volleyball Classic at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
The victory improves Harding’s record to 8-2 overall and 2-0 at home and extends the Lady Bisons’ winning streak to five matches. Harding will close out the Classic on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Crowley’s Ridge.
Lambert, who now has three matches this season with 15 or more kills, was a key factor in the Lady Bisons’ attack, recording a career-best .500 hitting percentage for the match.
Harding’s offense was dominant from the start, hitting .393 in the first set. Ella Drake and Lambert led the charge with five and four kills, respectively, as the Lady Bisons cruised to a 25-17 win. Setter Olivia Wiedower distributed 12 assists in the set, helping Harding win 82.4% of the points on Trevecca’s serve.
The second set proved to be more competitive. Harding held a narrow 19-17 lead before going on a 4-0 run to push the advantage to 23-17. Trevecca Nazarene fought back with a 6-1 run, but Lambert closed out the set with a kill to secure the 25-23 victory. Despite hitting only .190 in the set, the Bisons held Trevecca to a .000 hitting percentage with nine kills and nine errors.
In the final set, Harding faced an early deficit, trailing 4-0. The Lady Bisons chipped away at the lead, tying the set at 12-12 on a Trevecca attack error. Harding took its first lead of the set at 13-12 on a service ace from Drake and never looked back. The Lady Bisons used a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 19-14 and a 4-0 run to go up 23-16. Trevecca managed to score five straight points, but a service error and a final kill by Drake sealed the 25-20 win and the match.
Drake finished the match with nine kills and two service aces. Wiedower directed the offense with 38 assists, and Carter Fouche added four service aces. Defensively, Maegan Jones and Drake each had 10 digs.
Trevecca Nazarene was led by Katilyn Grant, who had nine kills. The Trojans dropped to 5-3 on the season.
