Devils finger fungus, smelt it well before I saw it. Found on a walk around Sherwood Forest this morning.

Thought someone had chucked an octopus in yhr bush at first.

  1. I zoomed in and still couldn’t tell it wasn’t an octopus

  2. Was sure that was an octopus for too long 😹

Then again, I am a bit Greek so more commonplace for me haha

  3. People don’t look suspiciously fish like do they?

  4. Very freaky looking! But less concerning than finding an inland octopus in the middle of a forest, I suppose.

  5. Devils finger fungus …. Sounds like something you need to get a creme off the doctor for 🤣

  6. Your lucky day! Not often you find six quid on the floor when you’re out for a walk.

  7. Did you get permission to take his picture..?

  8. AKA Octopus Stinkhorn. Said to smell like rotting flesh.

  9. I wonder if r/confusing_perspective would like this. Certainly did think – no it can’t be an octopus but it sure does look like one at first.

  10. That thing looks like it’s about to start a boss fight.

  11. I guarantee you smelled it long before you saw it – stinkhorns reek of death.

  12. Next door to Sherwood Forest myself, have to keep an eye out for them

  13. Apparently they can break your arm with one of their tentacles. Or is that swans.

  14. Shouldn’t have wished to live in more interesting times

  15. Clathrus archeri, or “Devil’s Fingers” :p it’s fungi

  16. Mother Nature to the last fungus waiting in “disguises” queue:
