AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The 11th annual HBCU 5K run, walk and health fair was held Saturday morning.
The annual event raises money for scholarships for students at our local HBCUs and the colleges themselves.
Just over 200 people participated in the run and walk while being able to end their trip at the health fair, where people could get health screens and learn more about their health.

Some of the organizers spoke about why the event is so important in our area.
“This is our only fundraiser that the HBCU of Mines does. And so with that money, we’ve awarded over $80,000 in scholarships thus far,” said Margaret Taylor, Greater Augusta HBCU Alumni Alliance Club.
They hope to do the event again next year.
