Would this ever be a possibility here?

  1. Write to your MLAs and council members with this article and they may very well tell you

  2. It’s first necessary to hire two consultants at £100k/yr salaries to find out. They should be able to report back in two years if this is a trial worth performing.

  3. Nah I like to be able to see where I’m going so I do

  4. If only someone could invent some sort of technology that could “sense” if anyone is in the vicinity, and then the lights could brighten or dim based on that. What would you call technology that **senses** if someone is nearby though. Maybe like a is-there-a-person-nearby-ometer?

  5. I would like to see one night a month all the lights stay off so we can see some more stars.

They really need to stop companies lighting up empty buildings and showrooms when they are closed.

  6. The tech to make it happen is already there, most of the newer street lights have 7 pin nema sockets built in which communicate with the CMS. From there they can dim or brighten the lights or switch off completly, say at very early hours of the morning when there will be very little traffic on the roads. Not sure if DfI Roads do this yet but the newer systems are capable of it.

  7. Can’t we tint them orange like they used to be?

  8. Wish they would do this on my street — my house is not even on a main road, but the lamps are insanely bright and of course there’s one right outside the bedroom window. Nothing that can’t be solved with thick curtains, but during the summer the curtains block all the fresh air from the open windows, so the choice is dying of the heat or being blinded all night.

  9. the warm glow of RHI boilers all over the north will keep us lit

  10. God I hope so. I much preferred the old orangey lights to the ‘so bright it might as well be day time’ replacement they’ve brought in on my street

  11. Just turn that fucking energy wasting street lamp off

  12. Personally I think street lights here in NI are way too dim, guess coming from the US I am used to bright steer lights, where you know, could actually see at night 🤷‍♂️😂

  13. These white street lights make everything look so bleak. Like fkn silent hill or something.

Could they not of had warm leds and dimmer.

  14. Fairly common in France for lights to be turned off for several hours late at night to save energy

  15. New led lights are a pain in the rear end. They don’t need to be so bright

  16. I can remember when the street lights in a lot of residential areas were switched off at about 11pm and didn’t come on again until about 7am in the winter mornings. When you go out into the sticks in the US you would be surprised how little street and road junction lights there are compared to here. It’s really eerie and creepy in some places.

  17. 540k for the parliamentary cocaine and child prostitute budget!!!

  18. Maybe we should start with our lights coming on when it’s really getting dark?

  19. Do we.need street and road lighting after midnight ? They could turn every 2nd or 3rd one off – would it be bad?

  20. Just get rid of lights ffs it’s 2025 this country is so backward

  21. This would be turned down as flags couldn’t be seen clearly 24/7

  22. I hope so. Ever since they put the LED streetlights in my street it’s like twilight all fucking night.

  23. Get the farmers and people in the countryside to follow legislation that outdoor floodlights might have a cowl installed to prevent excess light beyond they area it is intended to light up. Some of them are like having a car on fullbeam pointed at your window all night long.

  24. Putting money before peoples safety.

They could save more by paying Councillors less expenses.
